Start the Revo-lution': how E3D is breathing new life into the 3D printer hotend

It has been a permanent fixture in the 3D printer world for years. A typical hotend, with heater, thermistor, nozzle and a heat break. But what if this were completely reinvented and fully integrated with each other? E3D has done it and is launching RapidChange Revo. What are the possibilities? Filamentz looks at the offer.

What exactly is RapidChange Revo?

RapidChange E3D Revo is a completely new ecosystem that succeeds the old and trusted E3D V6, while being smaller, lighter and much more user-friendly. It is characterized by the low number of parts and the ease with which 3D printer nozzles can be replaced.

E3D Revo , on the other hand, is also made to easily replace the old 3D printer hotends. The form factors are virtually the same and the lengths and widths have also been adopted from the earlier E3D V6 series.

Upgrade your existing 3D printer

When designing E3D Revo, which took E3D several years, the starting point was always that it should be an easy upgrade to your existing 3D printer. That is why they have released the different E3D Revo version in such a way that it is easy to install on most 3D printers. This includes the Prusa MK3S+, Prusa Mini+, the Creality Ender series of 3D printers, but E3D has also developed a Revo kit for Voron owners that makes it possible to enjoy quick nozzle changes and the prevention of leaks and other inconveniences.

Difference between normal heatblock and E3D Revo - E3D

Benefits of E3D Revo

The benefits of the new E3D Revo are easy to recognize. The biggest and most important advantage is the very quick change of nozzles. A nozzle change at a high temperature is a thing of the past, as it can now be done at room temperature. It also makes no difference in terms of lengths and distances whether you switch between a 0.25 mm or a 0.8 mm E3D Revo nozzle, so no calibration is necessary anymore. The integrated heater and thermistor in the E3D Revo also ensure more stable temperatures and less heat loss, thanks to the insulated nozzles that are included. Naturally, by integrating the nozzle and the heat break, a new step has been made in preventing leaks in hot ends. The last major advantage of the new E3D Revo is the fact that it is also a lot lighter than the previous E3D V6, which allows 3D printing at a higher speed without sacrificing print quality.

Different types of E3D Revo

E3D Revo is built to serve the largest possible platform in terms of ease of use. Whether this is on a larger industrial 3D printer or on a small Voron 0.1, with a relatively small construction volume. Both 3D printers have the same goal: reliable 3D printer without problems. That is why E3D has made a relatively major release for the following form factors:

Most versions are of course self-explanatory. The Revo Hemera is available as a complete or upgrade kit for anyone with an E3D Hemera, the Voron and Creality versions are for the 3D printers of the same name and the Revo Six is a one-on-one replacement for the E3D V6 hotend , the best-selling hotend worldwide. . The most compact version of the group is the E3D Revo Micro. With a total weight of 30 grams, it is suitable for a high-speed 3D printer with the same reliability. All versions can be used in direct drive or in Bowden setup.

Recognizing E3D Revo nozzles

During the launch of the E3D Revo, E3D managed to release four nozzles, consisting of a range between 0.25 mm and 0.8 mm. It was also recently announced that a hardened steel nozzle will be released, so that the more aggressive 3D printer filaments such as Woodfill can also be printed. The nozzles can be easily recognized by the color of the insulated silicone sock that surrounds them . This way you always know which nozzle is installed and that you can use another one within a minute if necessary.
